La Guillaumette, eco commitment for responsible holidays

Since its beginning, La Guillaumette has been committed to welcoming you in a comfortable and respectful environment. All our approaches are based on eco tourism.

How can we reduce in the long term, our impact on Fouras, a fragile and extraordinary peninsula?

Over 10 years ago, we were awarded two eco labels, “La Clef Verte” in 2010 and “Ecolabel

Européen” in 2012.  It has deeply changed my outlook and actions on eco issues, setting up an on-going dynamic of progress.

Water and energy

For equal comfort, our consumption has been sustainably reduced:

  • All our taps are equipped with water savers or faucet aerators

  • All our cottages are fitted with energy saving bulbs or LED

  • Five cottages benefit from solar water heaters

  • All electrical appliances score a minimum class A

  • On going monitoring of our energy and water consumption systems

  • Natural ventilation system: sun protection with shutters, draughts by mosquito nets, garden landscaping

Suppliers

For their ethics I have chosen:

  • ENERCOOP, 100% renewable electricity supplier

  • Credit Coopératif Bank, investing in environmentally friendly projects

  • Circular economy, recycled furniture and crockery

Waste sorting

Our selective sorting process has been improved:

  • Vegetable peelings become potting soil

  • Oysters and mussels are transformed into calcareous food for chickens,

  • Corks are used to insulate houses

Gardens

In order to promote biodiversity:

  • We plant hardy native plants in our gardens

  • We keep flowering and pollinating wild flowers

  • La Guillaumette is LPO shelter (Bird life protection national association)

  • We have two beehives in collaboration with a beekeeper from Fouras. You can have a taste of the honey at the local market.

  • Our gardens are chemical free

  • Rainwater is collected for our sparse garden watering

For responsible holidays

Transports

What about slowing down?

  • You can leave your car at the carpark and enjoy walking or riding a bike.

  • You can take a ride on the bus and appreciate the beauty of the landscape

  • To help decongest touristic sites and have a relaxed visit, prefer the off season

We are sincerely hoping that you will join our commitment to ecology.

Rubbish
  • No break from your good waste sorting habits!

  • Drink tap water, use your water flask

  • Big Tupperware are at your disposal in the cottages. You can use them to buy fish, oysters, and mussels

Country walks
  • Let’s respect the amazing wildlife

  • Do not disturb birds and other animals

  • Enjoy the flora with your eyes only

  • Do not leave behind you any trace of your visit: bring back rubbish, food scraps, tissues.

  • If you light a fire, use the designated areas and put if out before leaving

Tips
  • When booking a rental, favour environmental labels as well as well-known labels whose booking fees create jobs in France

  • Prefer train travelling, an excellent alternative

  • And… what if you stayed a little longer?
